Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai praised the Indian Armed Forces for their successful execution of “Operation Sindoor,” which targeted nine terrorist hideouts deep inside Pakistan in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. Rai expressed his support for the action, reinforcing the need to eliminate terrorism wherever it thrives.

Speaking to ANI, Rai said, “I congratulate the Army. We always take pride in our Army… The entire country wanted those lemon chillies to be removed from the Rafale… I think wherever terrorism is flourishing, we need to eliminate it all.”

Rai, who had previously sparked controversy with his comments regarding the Rafale fighter jet, referred to the symbolic gesture of removing “lemon chillies” from the jet, echoing a sentiment shared by many Indians who were upset with the lack of action against terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack.

The Congress party, in its official reaction, voiced its firm support for India’s military actions, emphasizing the importance of national unity. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “India’s commitment to eliminating all sources of terrorism in Pakistan and PoK has necessarily to be uncompromising and always be anchored in the supreme national interest. This is a time for unity and solidarity.”

Ramesh further highlighted that the Congress party had consistently supported the government’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack since April 22, reiterating the party’s full backing of the armed forces.

India’s strikes, carried out as part of “Operation Sindoor,” marked the deepest military action within Pakistan’s undisputed territory since 1971. The operation successfully targeted terror camps in both Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The strikes were launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.

The Ministry of Defence clarified that the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure responsible for planning and directing attacks against India. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also engaged with the chiefs of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy to assess the situation following the operation.

A press briefing on “Operation Sindoor” is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 AM, where further details of the operation are expected to be revealed.
